Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

I forgot to answer the part about the load for the engine. Yes, I will definitely have a load for running and testing it. That is PART 2 of the engine building project FUN!! If you look at my you tube channel you will find a very eclectic mix of videos, but you will definitely see lots of...

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

Great questions! I have allowed for water at the top end of the liner, and also in the head but have not done the drilling in the head yet. Luckily the stainless that the head is made out of drills nicely. Something I do when working on design-build projects is try to not box myself into a...

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

Those laps look high quality like they would control roundness, straightness, all that good stuff. I don't know if you mentioned in detail how the diameter adjustment works and how you load the lap with grit. That video really emphasizes the difference between quality single-purpose built tools...

There is a fungus among us.

Nice! Do they have gills on the bottom? See how quickly they change shape in the next few days and keep us updated. We are having a bad drought where I live and definitely no mushrooms. Those a big enough where you only need one per person. I wouldn't care for any, thank you.

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

I believe both styles are pretty forgiving so long as you DON'T run the stones out either end of the bore, and keep it fairly centered and straight. As they come out the end, they will tend to bottle mouth the bore, and you can't fix that. That is why I prefer the lathe with stop-blocks method...

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

Camshaft and Lifter Assembly This is the "ugly block" from post #263. It now houses the camshaft with ball bearings at each end, with the end of the shaft protruding out the front of the block to accept the combination drive gear and balance weight. It will be driven by the non-existent gear...

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

I am not trying to make excuses, but with the progressive lenses in my glasses, visually checking for vertical, level, perpendicular, etc., is usually a guess. I just don't trust my perception of those characteristics. Using a hand drill never results in a hole that is perpendicular to the entry...

    Straight 6 Cylinder Engine

This has come together incredibly quickly, based on my very limited efforts. Nothing like experience to make the job go faster.... and smoother. Lloyd

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

It's a brake cylinder hone I bought years ago at an autoparts store. It has one set of fine stones and will close down to about 19mm. I just chucked the liner in the lathe, protected everything as best I could with a bunch of rags, chucked the hone in the tailstock and manually moved the...

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

Where I was working, "robust design," was a euphemism for the literal translation of "too damn heavy to lift."

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

July 6, 2024 Getting closer and closer. I have added the odd shaped piece that is the crank cover and gear train plate. It is machined on the back side such that it has a flange on all edges to ( @NapierDeltic ) improve the rigidity of the assembly. No gears are on it yet. I have set the head...

    Straight 6 Cylinder Engine

@Rdean33422 , I notice that you paint most items "as-you-go". That implies a certain confidence level in the final product. Everything I make is apart and together 1,000 times, adding an additional tapped hole or machining a clearance, or adding a bracket, and on and on. My paint would end up...

What is a Diesel Engine ?

Bizarre, but VERY interesting. Do you have more info on this somewhere? Thanks, Lloyd

    Diesel nozzles, EDM

A couple of thoughts. 1. 3d printer nozzles are cheap and available to 0.2mm, maybe smaller. 2. The 2 piece nozzle already mentioned with a hole and then a partial tapered plug is promising. 3. When I was a kid I made a little EDM, probably from something in Popular Science or Popular...

Model Diesel: 32mm bore, 38mm stroke, indirect injection

Leak detection and repair, especially in a high pressure dynamic condition can be extremely frustrating to trouble shoot and repair. I really, really, know. Your use of the manilla folder gasket for detection is excellent! Also, putting a few drops of food coloring in the cylinder before doing...

    Straight 6 Cylinder Engine

I could be mistaken but it seems like I read a lot more about model engines having inadequate cooling rather than too much cooling. Is that a fair statement? The diesel I am making will just have drilled passages in the head, plus a water jacket around the upper portion of the cylinder. I can...

Never put your shop vac away with the hose attached to the "blow" end. Not that I have ever done that....more than once.

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

I was re-reading some posts and looked at your last sentence again in post #260. That is so true! 😍 When we have limitations in the tools and materials in our home shops, sometimes the "methods" play a much stronger role in the project. And sometimes the "method" is getting a tool to do...
