    Australia: Slideway Oil

I hate it when new toys get delivered first thing in the morning, a work day is too long to wait to play! The oil has arrived though it's not in the pretty can pictured above. A real shame as I thought that would have looked rather nice sitting on a shelf :( One bonus though with the bland...

Quick and dirty sine bar setting

LittleMachineShop still have sine bars available, though slightly larger and slightly more expensive -- http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3525 An alternative to the LMS Space Block set, and slightly cheaper, is the Gauge Block set from CTC Tools with a claimed...

    Australia: Slideway Oil

Good stuff. Two down, two to go. I think Coke bottles are PET plastic? If so, looks like it's fine for the oil:

    Australia: Slideway Oil

Hi guys, I've just purchased some Castrol Magna BDX 68 machine tool slideway oil to try. It was the only oil I could get without spending squillions on a huge drum or IBC(!!) I have a 5L can which would be a lifetime supply for me, so, if anyone in Australia would like to try some of this...

    Busy Bee/ Craftex 7 x 12 Lathe

Yes, I reckon it is definitely possible. I thought of this too, but only after I had spent the time doing the above procedure and stamping the reference marks! Typical. It was around 2 or 3am at the time so poor brain wasn't exactly running on full steam. I do plan to go back and try this...

    Busy Bee/ Craftex 7 x 12 Lathe

It can yes, it all depends on how accurately the backplate registers were machined. What I typically do when I get a new lathe is lightly punch a reference mark on the outside of the lathe spindle, then I mount the chuck and measure the runout, noting the chucks orientation and writing this info...

    Locking up my cross slide

Bogs is back! Nice tip with the ball bearing (no twisting), and, nice tip with the ball bearing (magnetic). Might have to do this to my new SC4.

Just a bit of a gripe.

Yes the first option is in two places, you would have seen it just above the second (open in new window) option? ;D Oh, sorry Al, I just realized I didn't give you my number for the delrin/acetal offcut.... 0448 074 375 If you're anywhere around Canning Vale anytime on a weekday, or Rockingham...

Just a bit of a gripe.

Actually, while thinking of the irony of the above and your mention of images opening in a new window, I remembered this option, also worth checking..... Mine is set to "Default (Enlarge in same window)" The two white boxes immediately below that option remain blank in my settings.

Just a bit of a gripe.

John, do you see any images at all? I wonder if the following option is not set? And yes, I'm aware of the irony, posting images Rof} You did say you can click them to view them.

    Sieg SC4 thoughts and experience?

Hi Ethan, Mine is going great, though I'm unable to do any screw-cutting just yet.(more on this when I start an unboxing thread, though I suggest you remove your chip guard and inspect the leadscrew carefully) I've stripped it down, checked it all over, cleaned it up and reassembled. The feel...

    How to combat crabbing

For any interested antipodean readers, the SX2P is sold in Australia by Ausee. John, With my old school X2, my plan was always to remove the Z-axis rack but also the hand wheel and shaft and pinion etc, then run the leadscrew down thru the head. It is similar to the hoss version but closer to...

    PeeWee V4 slow build

Ha! A few weeks ago I took the risk and bought the metric version and like you I would recommend it. Years ago when I was managing a Jaycar store these kits came in as a new product and I immediately dismissed it as junk. Then a month ago I was looking for tiny metric taps and dies and worked...

    Another X2 Mod thread

Cheers Steve. Getting grand ideas of CNCifying my now redundant 7x14 lathe and I think these would be perfect, got the Gecko servo drives already.

    PeeWee V4 slow build

No worries, I have 2 metres of it! I'll cut a lump off, 100mm be enough? 200mm? No cash, knowing it'll be used for good(IC engine) vs evil(taking up space here) is enough for me ;)

    PeeWee V4 slow build

Hi Al, I have used black acetal(delrin) with great success for some of my astronomy adaptors. This stuff machines beautifully with HSS tooling, I can't speak with any authority about how it behaves with inserts, but I have used an insert for threading (M48 x 0.5 internal) and it was easy peesy...
