You have the option to show or hide dimensions when creating a part. If you go to view and toggle "annotations" to off it will only show dimensions for the active 2D sketch not all the other sketches that make up the part. When it comes to producing 2D drawings you can select to have all the...

Bolton No 7 casting kit... Good value..?

In the case of kits it is not usually the foundries that supply them. Kit manufacturers have them cast by foundries who do other commerical work so they are not just producing small batches of model kits. Often the problem is finding a foundry who want to deal with the smaller batches or if they...

Yes, I meant draw it staight away rather than wait to see if Gordon would post images. Just as I did. No better way to understand a design than to draw it out yourself rather than just look at pictures as it makes you think about what is happening. Though the sectional drawing that Gordon...

Why not draw it out yourself only a couple of mins work the passage is at least covered by half the piston at full stroke so the air should be inclined to go where it is meant to at least when the engine is not under load so I'm not convinced that is the problem

Or just scratch build them and don't bother with castings. This one is close to the Bolton No16 high speed vertical.

I would have thought that at the position shown the steam/air should still be going to the lower side of the piston or have just about shut as it is near to it's full travel. The passage to the side where the piston rod is sticking out the most should be about to open to air and the passage to...

    Sieg Sx 2.3 Mill

I think the head/column is the same as the brushless SX2.7 and the gib is larger at the top so comes out that way. The lower adjusting screw on the 2.7 that I have does stick out but I've never wound the gib in far enough to see if it locks the head. The spare gibs are supplied over long for...

    Stuart Number 9 Engine

The 30deg is the result of how fast you move the cylinder along the hone/lap. I would say it is more of a honing thing than lapping which tends to just leave an even fine surface. Also depends on what rings you are using, don't want a hatch chewing up an O ring. Treat "as cast" as not a surface...

    Stuart Number 9 Engine

But I thought every good apprentice machinist spent their first 6 months learning how to file ;) Just like full size there parts are typically left cast, you can tidy them up a bit with a file or dremel if needed. I tend to just turn the surface for the nuts to bear on and then paint the oval...

    Video about hobby foundry course.

"A bit shy" there was NONE. The problem is they have also retained that disregard for PPE and now it is on the web all and sundry will think it is OK. The guy with the long hair and the one pouring the iron just had slip on shoes, watch when he steps backwards and steps on a bit of hot iron...

    Rider Ericsson Homemade Castings

Looking good The core box would really need wto be split so you could get the core out. Though for home use you could just print a half mould and fill that with your core material to make two half cores that could be stuck together. Other options would be to make round cores and glue a short...

A tip for next time. As you were using castings the core should have been shaped to produce the water space by being a larger diameter in that area. You would then only need to machine the two smaller diameters at the end where the liner makes contact. Although my Denny is fabricated you can...

I thought the ref line worked the same in all versions. start your line at the -0.25 point and then hit tab, you can then enterer the angle. Then do a circular pattern of that line to get your 24 points

    Stuart # 4 crankshaft

Depends on the age of your kit, they now supply steel not a casting. Same with the 10V that used to come as a casting. Should not be a problem fabrication or cutting from a solid piece of flat bar.

It is quite possibly not a physical tight spot that is making it hang up but possibly you are getting air/steam to both ends of the cylinder at a particular point so look carefully at the ports. The intermittant nature could be that when it has enough momentum it carries itself over the point in...
