That is not a good combo on an IC with no rings as the heat will likely make th episton expand and sieze the engine. Cast iron will be better in your steel liner. You will need to use a lap to smooth the bore and this also helps ensure it is parallel. Then lap the piston into the bore

I'd also suggest you look at that cam you made a couple of days ago, looks nothing like the first pair you made, not sure what you have done, either wrong duration or a much larger nose radius which is likely to result in a lot less lift if you started with the same size material. Originals...

    Shows keep getting smaller!

Regarding the one day or multiple days we have had similar here. Usual practice was to drop off exhibits the day before or possibly early morning of the first day and then collect after closing on the last day. This meant two trips or staying over, three trips if you wanted the bargains on the...

That is good that SW can do it so you should be able to do as I have done and see how the timing works, saves having to keep pulling the engine apart. Look forward to seeing the running engine. Not everyone has Alibre but the video and screen shots I post allows anyone to see how things should...

    Strictly IC ISSUE 37

Well it's nice to dream. But in the real world most of these old casting set designs were often done by someone who had the full size and just wanted to make a model for themselves. Then others wanted some castings so they had to hand draw up a set as best they could and get some castings done...

Here you go Brian, that same assembly being rotated Read the bottom right first to see what is going on with the right side cylinder then watch again to see how the rear one follows 360deg of CRANK rotation later. This is for the Bobcat based engine as I have the parts modeled. You can do the...

At the risk of wasting my time I will suggest you take the cover off the top of your older opposed twin an look at the cam positions. This was my version You will see that the two inlet valves line up with each other and the two exhaust valves line up with each other. This is not any...

But as we have discussed before who is going to buy into a money looser. Those that have put things up for sale want a lot of money, items need work before they can be sold be that scanning or making good poor patterns, market is limited and so on. Also many may take something on with good...

You really are getting confused how can one cam open a valve and the other close it when the cam follower and pushrod to each valve only contacts one cam. I mentioned somewhere in this thread that the other opposed twin had almost the same angles when you were saying 102 was unusual. read what...

    Strictly IC ISSUE 37

Its a lot for someone getting on in years to take on. No doubt he will want to recover the cost of buying the rights. So these days it would mean setting up a website with web commerce so that magazines can be sold as downloads and having the time and inclination to run it. Not sure what...

Not totally sure of US law but in the UK I think it remains copyright until 75yrs after the authors death. At least if the ownership of the rights are changing hands on someones passing there is more chance of the new owner making them available sooner.

It is geneally accepted that trading the actual printed old magazines is OK. The copyright issue arrises when someone distributes copies or large parts of the old magazine either by PM or posting them on a forum

Thanks for confirming. Yes they are quite different profiles, I've not gone into how the different type of followers will affect things but this sketch shows the different durations. Upshur in grey, Wyvern in outline. (approx average of the two)

Piston and ring can be sized to the bore so a thou or two each way won't hurt but you do want it parallel. Simple way is to hone/lap your cylinder and then make the piston. When you get close to size on the piston use the cylinder as a ring gauge trying both ends. If it only enters one end and...

Yep also same 4-5 degrees from Rklopp before TDC that I suggested but you still want to set it at your usual 15deg, Don't now why I bother some times. Maybe now that a second person has suggested it you will get your head out the sand and listen. Rklopp did you machine your cams to the Upshur...

You are mixing cam rotation (96.3 deg) and crank rotation 15+180+45 So as the cam rotates at half the crank rotation your cam duration of 96.3 will equate to 192.6deg of crank rotation. Therefore with 192.6deg to play with I would set the engine up so that the intake starts to open at 4deg OF...

You have got to do two things with this engine. 1. Set the cam timing, we have covered this in many posts 2. As you have a 2 cylinder engine and a distributor you ALSO need to set the rotor in the distributor so that the correct cylinder fires at the correct time in relation to what the cam is...

A lot of cast model crankshafts are cast from Ductile iron (SG Iron in the UK) so chances of cracking are low as it is more like steel than iron. Usually have a bit of a smell about it so you know when you are machining it.
