    Proxxon mf70

The controller on my CNC Step High Z 1000 is a work of art, it cost about £600.00 when bought with the machine and works faultlessly. Like you say life is too short to waste on garbage, I want to be making things. We had a mishap with our Chinese K40 laser cutter last November, to be fair it...

    Proxxon mf70

A very interesting account of your progress through the CNC World. I personally suffer from very serious Sinophobia so I will just accept your accounts and hope that it does not fuel my phobia even more!! I am surprised by your account of the TB6560 drivers, I thought they were a Toshiba...

    Proxxon mf70

I have visited the Sherline factory in California and had a tour of both the factory and the Craftsmanship Museum, I got the an overall impression of a quality company. If I did not have the Unimat 3 as my small lathe I would go down the Sherline route. As a matter of interest what was you 5...

    Proxxon mf70

I agree with you 100% that rigidity and mass are key for getting good finishes. I have often wondered how the Sherline mills fair as they have some serious overhangs and seemingly less than rigid extensions. Proxxon have a funny and interesting DNA IMO, I have had a couple of the small hand...

    Proxxon mf70

Aarggh A nice machine but the next level up from what Ship69 was talking about as 62Kg is not a quick lift onto a shelf.

    Proxxon mf70

Ship69 I have not used a MF70 but like most light machines with care it would cut mild steel, however what I can recommend is a second hand Unimat 3 with milling attachment, these are not cheap but are predominantly made from cast iron and steel. Whilst not cheap you can almost regard them as...

    Cx701 lathe report

Linz Go with your first inclination and ship it all back for a refund, I will be surprised if you are ever happy with these machines, you have technical ability and probably have high standards. You have not started machining yet to see if there are mechanical defects as well!!

    Buying a lathe

Richard This question of which machine tool to buy comes up so often and the second hand v new (Chinese) debate. Here are a few of my observations over many years. You cannot future proof your purchase, a long time ago I accepted that when ever I bought a machine that the second job that I...

    Buying a lathe

"It is grim in the north" Everyone's backgrounds are different but our interest in model engineering bought us to this common place. Everyone's expectations are different. B.

    Attempting Gordon Nano

Creast I was lucky enough to work on a project professionally with Richard Gordon, he is a very clever chap, he works for Ricardo in Shoreham and setup Ricardo's Tokyo office, he is no mug. We spoke about the Nano during some car journeys, but idle conversations tended to drift towards F1...

    Collets for End Mills

Hello Baron I do a lot of model parts from G10 and carbon fibre sheet, the 1.5mm PCB cutters really like plus 20,000 rpm, so I have 3000 on the mill for metal etc. with the option to hold the 50,000 rpm Jager, then 24,000 on the gantry router with the option to mount the Jager in that as well...

    Collets for End Mills

Goldie 20,000 rpm might be fast but could just as easy to be dead slow depends on what part of the hobby you are involved with, I admit I don't get the 50,000 rpm Jager spindle out that often but it is there when needed.

Information on Machining a Model Engine Spinner

Bill I would say two things determine how you make an aluminium spinner as you describe. 1) What machinery do have? 2) What is the actual diameter of the spinner? Prop nut spinners which look like the US Hamilton Standard spinners or the Cox Tee Dee style can be done with form tools in just...

    Hello from California

Hello David Those are some nice machines you have bought. I would be interested how you get on with the Weiler lathe, they are not very common in the English speaking World. Regards Baz

Are you the same Lee Webster asking about 3D printing over on the ME forum? If so I will answer your question here. Regards Barrie

    Choosing Lathes??

Gary I would agree with Goldstar that there are other options that you should look at, my answer was just relating to the two lathes that you mentioned. I have had a Myford Super 7 before, it was a nice lathe, I certainly would be happy to have one again, likewise I have had an EMCO V10P, that...

    Choosing Lathes??

I don't know about the Warco lathe, I hear good and bad things about the lathes that come from that factory. The Hobbymat seems to have a good reputation and for quite some time was rebadged and sold by Proxxon, they are still listed by Pro Machine Tools and often spare parts come up on Ebay...

    2 cycle rotary valve engine

Hogan Yes you will be fine with a carb, keep it rich at the bottom end, I have seen some RC car engines really race away on tick over if too lean, that is the last thing you want on a new engine. Good luck Bazzer
