    Another Internal Combustion Engine

Thanks Doug the CNC is a way to make parts that I couldn't do manually or a least not look as good. I setup close to 5 degrees but it isn't all that critical as long as you don't change the angle until all the parts are cut. Thanks K2 Ray

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

I made up a couple of taper lock bushings and taped the holes in the flywheels. I just can't have plain solid flywheels so over to the CNC mill for some bling. Drew up some curves, added some width, and hoped for the best. I think it came out just fine. First one cut out but a lot of work...

They are not my favorite either as I had been making mine from bar bell weights. Never again. I will buy cast iron from a known source and pay the extra. The first flywheels I made for this engine gave me a fit for several days. Several carbide inserts and a tool post grinder to get them to...

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

This will be my third engine with a fly ball governor. Thanks Jojo There is still a lot to do yet and I keep adding more features to the engine. Thanks John This is the head mounted on the engine. What do you think? Do you like the name? It has proven to be abundantly clear to me that the...

    Makings of a generator

Baron this was several years back and my memory is not so good anymore but the original thread was three pages long and may answer your question. https://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/threads/stepper-motor-alternator.34612/ Ray

    Makings of a generator

I don't know if this is helpful but this is a stepper motor driven by my V Twin I did a few years back. Ray

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

Well I cut the top of the epoxy off today and was disappointed. It just didn't stick well on the slick aluminum so I picked it all off and started over. I talked real nice and had my wife paint in the letters. It turned out quite well I think. I had some time so I cut out some head gaskets...

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

Well I made it back and I had a good time but I did miss the shop. This is the start of the cylinder head with a routed name tag. I have never tried this method on aluminum but I have used it many times in wood. I mix up 2 part epoxy and add some black power coat pigment. Stir it all up...

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

Thanks Dan Much of this build has been an experiment for me from the side shaft to the steel cylinder liner and many more things. So far the square o-ring seems to be doing fine. Ray

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

The paint hadn't completely cured today so I put the pieces in the toaster oven for a few minutes. While I was waiting on that I decided to cut the o-ring groove in the piston. I didn't have any o-rings the right size for this larger piston so I had ordered some from Graingers. I wanted 75...

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

The red and green spray paint cans were almost empty and the blue just wasn't doing it for me so Allis Chalmers orange it is. I took a couple of hours to shine up some of the aluminum pieces. On just about every model I have made I don't let the paint dry long enough and end up messing it up...

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

That was left over from my ultralight days Thanks. I had thought of that too. thanks Some of the governor parts. And two views of the governor all assembled and installed. I will have to get a stiffer preload spring and maybe a smaller drive pulley as the weights really fly out. I am...

Very nice project Jason. I like the color too. Ray

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

The last couple of days I have been busy in the shop. I made the magnet wheel for the ignition system and the drive pulley for the governor. Driven governor pulley mounted in the ball bearing housing. Rubber belt drive with a 1/4 twist. It tracks just fine thank you. Catch arm...

I have the mechanism for the exhaust valve installed. It's the little things that take the longest to make. I have left the rocker arm extra long for now until I decide where I want the "miss" catch arm to be. Thanks for looking Ray

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

It's valve time today but I only got 3 pictures. One valve in progress. Both valves with screw on spring retainers along with both intake and exhaust valve guides. Everything installed with springs and retainers. The valve on top is the exhaust. This was a long day in the shop but when...

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

I weighted the connecting rod, piston, and the rod journal bearing together and they came out to almost 5 oz. Now after much deliberation and concentrated thought using several data pages and checking the phase of the moon I came up with the size of the counter weights that I needed to make...

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

I wrote thread #20 yesterday but I forgot to post it so two for today Thanks Danuzzo Cutting out the cam shaft supports. Hot off the mill. The cam shaft drive gears can be either helical or bevel gears. The helical gears are more compact but much more expensive and a 2to1 ratio is also...

    Another Internal Combustion Engine

I got the cylinder mounted on the side rails and the screw holes all lined up. The cylinder is well aligned with the side rails and the crankshaft turns freely. Made up a drawing for the camshaft supports. Will cut them out later. There won't be much room left between the engine block and...
