Sieg brushless mini lathe overload won't reset!!

Ok, I started the lathe with the chuck still in it. Yes, that's a stupid thing to do. It wasn't spinning very fast, and the overload cut in. This has happened before when the tool has dug in. Just turn it off and on again and it resets. This time it didn't. Lite comes on, I can hear it click of...

    Compressed air engine design basics

Thank you I couldn't find any published info on web that pertained to models. I was unsure if life sized info would transfer. I am a bit unsure about double acting and single acting, I will do some research I am to green to burn :)

    Compressed air engine design basics

Is there a rule of thumb concerning Bore/stroke/piston length. I can imagine the extremes, long stroke, small bore, long piston or big bore, short stroke with very thin piston. I am wondering if there is some rule of thumb for the happy middle. Is there?

can you help me identify was type of motor

I have a bunch of savaged electric motors with 90 degree drives. German. Quality. bigger than a bread loaf and heavy. From a Cinema. It has some info on the front, but its in German, relates to voltage, HP etc, but not AC or DC. The main thing is it has 4 conducting wires. two to the rotor...

Power board mini lathe brushless motor broken

Why do you say it is risky? Tin Falcon; I have some experiance with building and repairing electronics and i really dont like removing components from any modern PCB and run away from the budget stuff. Traces lift and break and the the action of sucking out the solder seems to knock out the...

Power board mini lathe brushless motor broken

Has anyone had any experience with a blown MOSFET on there sieg S lathe. There was a loose nut on mine which has contacted the MOSFET and blown it. Made a really loud noise which was front of Fet blowing off and hitting plastic cover. I have contacted seller but bit worried as I have taken it...

    Home brew flame licker

ok, all taken on board. What about compressed air? Think that would be any easier? Main reason for "making it up as i go along" is my inability to read a plan and to work to a stated dimension. I do alot better working "empericaly". The see if it fits approach

    Home brew flame licker

Hello I am wanting to make a flame licker engine. I have looked at several plans and am wondering what chance of success if I just make it up as I go along. I was thinking aluminum body, cast iron piston, as long as what I can find in bin, then workout valve, timing, flywheel dimensions from...

    Simple non spinning ball govenor

Oohhhh! I like that!!! Never thought of that! Yes, hit and miss is the idea. What about a centrifugal clutch like on a weed wacker, but when it slows it grabs a shaft that moves the valve that feeds the air ( that...jack built) So centrifugal clutch on flywheel, inside flywheel shaft is another...

    Simple non spinning ball govenor

Has anyone a simple design or idea or concept for a govenor that doesn't require spinning balls, bevel gears and other hard to make things :). Also preferably not electro-mechanical. Pendulum on a horizontal rod comes to mind but I can't see how to implement it. Ideas please

    First project: Taper.

Tivoth: I have only had the lathe a week. It was pretty easy job, used tool holder to match the Taper, hard to get a good finish hand cranking the compound, maybe I will use electric drill and extension for final cut :) The taper blued at each end was not the final result, blue all over is...

    First project: Taper.

I thought i did! Will here they are. A picture of the spindle on my mill, the taper first fit and the finished item. I realize that this is pretty basic stuff, but i am amazed that i could do it!! Next is to drill and tap for draw bar, fit it in the horizontal mill and drill and bore for a...

    First project: Taper.

My first project. Had my lathe a week, made some HSS cutting tools, needed a taper for my very old horizontal mill. The taper is basically a Browne and sharp number 8, but it's only 2inchs long. I have the one that came with the mill so I chucked it up, "crashed" the compound up against, locked...

Mini Lathe carriage. Purpose of grub screws???

My first post... I am puzzled as to the purpose of the two grub screws on the spindle end of the carriage, on my Sieg sc2 lathe. They are one at the back, one at the front, almost above the gib locking bolts, spindle end. They look like where I would put auto oilers, or mount a carriage lock. I...
