    I have a question gentlemen

I vote for a stirling or finger engine too, because he can sell it for a good money and it don't require a boiler or an ir source to play with. I don't know the size of parts he is used to make, but jewelry is also a nice thing, like these:

    Arbor press selection

Hi Alexandre, This kind of arbor press can be very expensive here in Brazil (http://www.recomak.com.br/ecommerce_site/produto_4469_5294_PRENSA-MANUAL-DE-BANCADA-SOMAR-PINHAO-E-CREMALHEIRA-3-TON) (That's U$600!!!) Since I don't have all this money, and most of my work is for models (small parts)...

    9x20 Lathe Chucks

I think 6" would be too large. You can't go wrong with the 5" one. I have a sieg C6 lathe and a 5" four jaw independent chuck. It fits just right in the lathe and has a great range to hold parts.

Taps and dies and nuts and bolts?

You may also try ArcEuroTrade. I have bought a complete set of metric tap and dies from them, and the quality is awesome! http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/default.aspx As for the bolts and nuts, you could try: http://www.fastener-express.com/ http://www.newstarfastenings.com/index.html...

Cobalt Lathe Tool Bits Good Or Bad ?

10% Co for long lasting tooling 12% will be even better. The tooling won`t be different in sharpness, but cutting edge will last longer with increase in Co. There are some parting-off blades with 50% cobalt, but I had never tried one.

    PTFE in Flame-Licker

Hi! Is there anything wrong in using Teflon (PTFE) to make the piston and internal valve in Jan Ridders internal vale vacuum engine? I know that the max temperature for teflon is around 250oC or 480oF. Does the temperature inside the engine goes above this? Thanks a lot! Tarik

    Face Mill

That`s a 45 degree face mill: That`s a 90 degree face mill: The angle refeer to the edge angle after cutting Also, the 45 degree angle need less HP to cut, so it`s better in smaller machines.

    Face Mill

2400RPM? Isn`t that too much even for inserts on a 36mm facemill? I have a 2 1/2" 4 TPK inserts facemill on my BF-20, and I run at 600-700RPM. I try to go easy on depth of cut: 0,5mm max and 0,1 finishing. I get great results everytime: the chips come out straw to blue colored and a mirror...

My first project - A gift for a friend

This is my first "engine" project since I bought my lathe and mill. I thought it was perfect for a gift, since it`s small enough to have on top os a desk or something. Also it`s very funny to play with! I made it with bass and aluminium to avoid rust. I also put a small brass tag with my...

New Toys: finally I have my shop complete

Hehe I really like the "taking shape" excuse, that might work with SWMBO when buying new tools! :D The QQTP is already installed, and MAN what a difference! Now working on an arbor for the facemill... Comparison between old locking screw in original tool post and the new one: QTTP installed:

New Toys: finally I have my shop complete

I've been following a lot of projects here in HMEM, learning new things each day. Now I finally got my machines! Here's a photo of my little shop (2x3m) before the machines and a picture showing the machines, a sieg C6 lathe and a BF20 mill. Just the right size for the free space I had! I'm...

Scoping out project time in advance

Don't forget the 90+90 law: 90% of the job takes 90% of the time. The remaining 10% of the job takes another 90% of the time! ;D

    Measuring Instruments

Rick, last year I bought a Mitutoyo 0-1" digital micrometer at Enco for U$120. The same mic cost U$570 here in Brazil... I know.... it's a shame!

    Fly cutter help!

I think two things are very important to archive a decent finish using a fly cutter: tramming the mill, and putting a radius at the tip of the cutting tool. The radius don't need to be small, as a large radius will help to eliminate tool marks in the surface. Take a loot at this...
