    miford sale

Don't forget it's 15.5% buyers premium then plus VAT on top of this so there are no £10 deals. That means a £100 deal is now £138.60 and you have to collect it. John S.

    Eagle30 and flood coolant

Yup. Put the job in a tray. Holes in the tray for bolting down and holes to line up with the tee slot for draining. John S.

Good plans for a "modern" single cylinder?

Andy, Unfortunately Malcolm Stride the author is dead but there are plans out there and it was covered in Model engineer in 2006 or such like. I have some plans but at the moment I'm sorting out 4 big boxes of books and drawings from a guy who recently died, not Malcolm, and there are some...

    Gears, gears and more gears

Can't see any reason why not but it will have to be a side cutting saw because it 'planes' the involute at each pass using the side. Interesting idea though. John S

I served my time on those engines but not the Packard version, the genuine RR version. John S.

    Gears, gears and more gears

Yes Chuck, everything I have done so far has been done with a 3mm end mill £2.99 off the shelf, except the gear 13 tooth corrected gear in the pic below and that needed a 2mm cutter to get into the root. What I did here was to cut two standard 14 teeth gears and put them on pins at the...

    Gears, gears and more gears

Yes later, it's on the cards but again no special cutters will be needed. For a bevel you will need the 4th axis tilted from flat to the required pitch angle and t will roll it to 'plane' the involute. Some of the work has already been done.

    Gears, gears and more gears

You will need a 1mm cutter for 1 MOD. Sample screen with a 20 and 15 selected. G Code is very generic, you may have to edit a couple of start up lines but the main code should run on most machines. John S.

    Gears, gears and more gears

Been working with Art Fenerty of Mach3 fame on his new gear-cutting program. Basically brought about because he wanted to do clock gears and then it got all out of hand with eccentric gears and all that artistic crap. Link to the site at www.gearotic.com there is a demo copy but the tutorials...

    Tact?

Just ignore him, without any input the project isn't going anywhere. I don't mind helping people and often go out of my way to do so, however some people want everything doing for them and you know the project is never going to get finished. The trick is trying to work out who's who. John S.

    10 tooth gear, involute cutter

Depends a lot on the Pressure Angle. This is two 48DP gears with 10 teeth at 20 degrees PA. and this is the same setup but at 14.5 degrees PA. John S.

    Thin section parting tools

One of these ? The one in the back ground Made from a carbide wood saw. Extra holes added for a location pin to prevent it spinning, works well. John S.

    Thin section parting tools

Got one of the insert type, 1.5 mm wide that pushes into a blade. Bought it off Jenny at JB Cutting tools at one of the shows. I don't have a back toolpost or any room for one because of the taper turning attachment so I run it upside down at the front and run the lathe in reverse. This lets...

    Arc welding

Any electrical appliance will only pull the power it needs, not the max power. We don't have different rated circuits here in the UK, we have ring mains and fused plugs on appliances so we can run a 1 amp soldering iron in a double plug and run a 13 amp welder on the other. Remember we are...
