    Wallaby

Did one using the Camcalc program at the last show demoing the CNC machines. Just a generic cam, not for anything but generated a lot of interest. After a quick polish with some scotchbrite. John S.

How NOT to break small milling cutters.

Bit of background first. Making a raft of HTD 5M series pulleys, mill a stick out on the 4th axis CNC in two sizes 40 teeth and 20 teeth for 2:1 reductions for the CNC conversions. These are dead easy to do, get the OD from tables or off the HPC web site and for the 5M series you need a 1/8"...

Small 10-20-40 blocks that actually work.

I'm in the UK and probably a bit too old to appreciate a pair, however the blocks are nice. ;D John S.

I have got my GS helping convert a mill to CNC but it's definitely not going to be a 4 day job. :P John S.

Plus 20-40-80's Come on lads get your hard earned coin out and get splashing. http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Workholding/Vee-Blocks-Angle-Plates Top of the page. Bit of history first, the original 1-2-3 blacks were made by Starrett and the idea was they bolted together to form...

    Crankshaft grinding?

Not grinding but we are away at the Midlands show in the UK and are demonstrating milling a crank on the CNC. Not too clear a picture as it's face on but there are 5 journals all at 180 to one another, forgot the mains :D The 'crank' rotates on it's main centres in the RT and as it does it...

    High speed CNC spindle

Same here but I'm looking at something with speeds from 4,000 up to 10,000 max but enough power to poke a 5mm drill thru 6mm of steel. Does this sound too unreasonable ? John S.

    Gear Cutters vs Gear Hob

Ray, if you are using O1 for the hob and only cutting alloy gears then harden out and just grind the front cutting face, do not temper them, the heat from the grinding is enough to temper the very fine teeth and give you a far better cut. John S.

    Gear Cutters vs Gear Hob

Commercial hobs are different to the 'hobs' that Shorty shows on his You tube video's. If you haven't seen them they are worth watching, I really rate this guy. Commercial hobs have a helical tooth form and unless you have some way of driving them in mesh with the blank they will not work...

    Converting a Sieg X1

Ali, Those boards from China work but be aware they are very voltage sensitive and you must not go over 24 volts with them or get crossed wires or they are toast. Double check all terminals before applying power, being a combined board if you fry a chip the whole board is toast. John S.

    one good news

No Stan, that's the HSM sig line. When I first stared coming on here there were already some other John S's so I used my full name. I don't usually use it as it takes too long to type unless the site software stores it

    Machinable wax

Tin, Been making this for a while and it works well, hard to find the materials cheap, the way from hobby stores is quite expensive. First try I got some reject candles about 4" diameter and 6" high from Ikea at £1.00 each and I managed to scrounge some virgin LDPE pellets from a moulding...

    miford sale

Someone described Myfords to me a few years ago as a factory of old men waiting to retire. That thought about the hand finishing cropped up for me as well. John S.

    miford sale

There will be no £10 lathes, what counts is what price they made when the auction ended and if by any chance they haven't reached a decent figure some shill will 'buy' them and they will be offered for sale somewhere else.
