Good day,

I am planning to buy a complete casting kit for ME beam engine from Reeves website.

I read in some forum that the castings are high quality and in some that they were bad.
Any idea how the castings are on an average?
Earlier I built 2 engines from PM Research castings and they were good.

Also the shipping cost to India is very high. GBP 150. I have emailed the owner if there are other options for shipping.
Still no reply from them.

Regards
Nikhil

Hi Nikhil, I just started this engine, and I am using the Reeves castings. I can't say how they are on average, as I have only seen this one set of castings, but I am very happy with mine. The beam is straight and looks like the pattern halves were properly aligned. All other parts look well defined and do not have obvious defects. I have only done some minimal machining on the aluminum base so far (used to be cast iron but is now supplied as aluminium). It was very straight and flat as castings go. So overall I am very happy with the kit but until I get further into it can only give you info about it in an as received condition. I think Reeves is your best bet for a casting set for this engine. Other suppliers of castings for it are notoriously unreliable.
