Hello everybody
when searching the internet for the "New Shay locomotive" I came across this website, found it very interesting and joined.
So here is a short introduction:
my name is Manfred, I live in the northern part of Germany, and am a retired engineer. Just a few years ago I found a new hobby in building model steam engines. Among other small models I built a model steam winch (took photos and measurements from a museum winch in Hamburg) and a 1:8 Stanley staem car (own design from a lot of 1:1 internet photos). Currently I am building a 3,5" New Shay, following Kozos book. I am not really a railway fan, but found Kozos books fascinating and see the build as a challange.
The machines in my workshop (and my wife :) ) do not allow for bigger models than this Shay.
I am especially interested in build reports to see, how others do things

best regards

Manfred

Welcome Manfred, glad to have you here.
That is some nice work you have there.
I saw a full-sized winch for sale years ago, and tried to purchase it, but they wanted too much money for it.
I would like to build a winch one day; another build to add to the list.
I like that Stanley too. My dad built a Stanley replica auto, full sized.

There is a lot of good information here, and some interesting and talented folks to interact with.
Good luck in your modeling endeavors.
Post photos here and keep us up to date.

Hey Manne, Could you be so kind as to tell us what that second engine in the photos is? I have never seen that before.

Hello Richard
on photo No 2 is the model of a steam winch. The original was built by clark & chapman around 1880, and I think it was installed on board of a ship. The original is currently in the harbour museum in Hamburg (photo attached)
