I need to get some BA taps (#5, #7 & #8). Have found them on the internet priced from 8 to 20 dollars each. Problems is they say nothing about brand name or where they are made. Anyone had any experience with US suppliers and quality of there taps.

Most US sellers get theirs from overseas. Not much of a market in the US to get US made BA taps.

I bought mine from Proops in the UK. They are carbon steel.

You can ask a question about an item using the E-Bay system.

No answer, don't like the answer. Don't Buy.

They don't have to be "made" in the USA I just want to buy a good brand from a USA supplier.

Well... That's the problem with finding a US seller. Not much of a market in the US for BA taps. I tried searching a few years ago and gave up.

Maybe some one will come along and post a US source. Coles Power model products carried them but they were carbon taps and were a bit more than ordering from Proops Bros. I think many of the Model Engineers in the UK use carbon taps, so they should be pretty good for the casual model builder.

As I mentioned in my last post. The low shipping cost of a small package of taps from the UK or Australia will surprise you. I find buying directly from the source is the best bet.

The prices from this seller seem reasonable. There located in Lyons, NY! Wa da ya know!

P,

All I can reiterate is what MB has given on one of his links.

I used to get my taps and dies from wherever I could, but have now settled on the Tap & Die Co.

They are HQS, and I have never come across taps and dies that cut stainless so easily, they cut it just like a normal one cuts brass.

They do seem a little expensive intially, but I go for the price breaks. The only problem is, I never seem to break one, so the ones I have purchased should last me until the end of time.

In the UK, because they deal mainly with industry who work on turnaround times, I can order late in the afternoon, and the tools are with me first thing the next morning.

I have no affiliation to the company, only being a very happy bunny with their quality, service and price breaks.
