What is a good and cheap commercial vacuum cleaner?

looking at the Oreck Commercial XL2100RHS Upright Vacuum.

What do you guys think?

A good vacuum cleaner for the shop is one that can be dumped quickly and one that provides easy cleaning of the hose when it comes blocked with debris. If it's made of plastic and impervious to oil that's a bonus.

I've always heard that the Henry Hoover one is best, plus it's small enough to hide under a bench if needed. :)

Not sure of your need but If you do a lot of milling I would also suggest checking out the 'dust deputy' it is a diy cyclone system, that sits before the vacuum.... and it is a fantastic bit of American kit, for metal chips.

Can put some photos up if interested.

Cheers,
.adrian

Vacuum cleaner + Thien separator is best. No full bag of dirt nd dust in the vacuum cleaner. :)

I have a Chinese rip off of a Dirt Devil brought from the local Supermarket. Cost a vast £15 takes paper bags but also came with a material bag. The material bag has stood up to swarf and workshop stuff for 5 years now.

I also have an original Dirt Devil, its only advantage is that it is not as loud as the Chinese one.

Good and cheap don't go together. However if you want cheap Shop-Vacs can do the job. As suggested above get or make a cyclone separator for use in front of the vacuum.

I second the suggestions for Shop-Vac. I have had several over the years. They do wear out or break, but no tears when they have to be replaced. Accesssories and supplies are available all over the place, so no trips to specialty stores to get things.

(We also have an Oreck upright and a small Oreck we use in the house and we like them a lot, but I wouldn't use either one of them in a shop. I will say I think they are a well-designed product and parts seem to be available, but a special trip to a specialty store to get them.)

I bought one from Lidil of all places under there own branding that turned out to Miele if thats the correct spelling?? and has been a great bit of kit for the shop and for when Im sanding back my dodgy plastering .Simply wouldnt be without it and very good value it even has an auto feature for power tools and the bags and filters are easily available at least in the UK.
cheers
