Many years ago a bought a box of misc. at an auction which included lathe tooling. Many years later I got my lathe and I was sorting my junk and came across some toolbits I could use and these things. they look like homemade cutting tools. My best guess is deburring tools. They don't look like they would work very well as countersinks. Any guesses?

It looks like someone took old endmills and ground them down to use as center punches.

looks like broken endmills, and someone put a somewhat point on them. they might have used them in the tailstock chuck and then into a tap to keep it straight. might have used for a makeshift dead center also. jonesie

Both are end mill shanks. I always save my worn out end mills and re purpose them. I even made a lathe tool holder for 1/2" shank end mills. Just grind them into turning, facing, threading, or even boring tool bits.

Looks like, they are centre drills, made from old end mills for large hole centering...

Thank you websterz, jonesie, n4zou, and mehmet. I don't think I'll use them but you gave me some ideas to practice grinding on my own broken end mills.
