today i went to my faveourite scrap yard spen a good hour rooting through the various piles of god only knows looking for a small v drive belt and a couple of pulleys for my milling machine build and had all but given up and as i was just going past the last skip the sun came out from behind the clouds and lit up something on the top of the pile with my eyes straining to see what it was i climbed up for a closer look and there it was a very large phosphor bronze bush the likes id never seen it was 6" long with an outer dia of 4" and an inner bore of 2 3/4" i took it to the office showed it to the old chap and he said gimmie £1 and its yours WINNER i feel a big version of chucks horisontal single comeing on with spoked flywheels wehey ;D

Glad to know I'm not the only one who gets a rush from a good scrap yard score....LOL. I've probably had more idiot grins on my face at scrap yards than anywhere.

We had a town dump where we used to live and every Saturday I had to go take the trash there. I found many treasures checking out the metal bin. ;D I had to be carefull as our friends would let my wife know if I found something and brought it home. I am amazed at how people dispose of things instead of just taking a look at the problem. I got an almost brand new mower because the owner did not want to take it to the shop. The guy even dropped it off at my house. Later I put gas in, pulled the cord and it ran!

There were some things that I did take back as they were truly toast.

Nice find John. Cant wait to see what you do with it.

No highjack noticed Viking. ;)

Congratulations on your find John! Thm:

I had a very productive visit to my local scrap yard last year.
An old hotel had been demolished and the metal scrap was in the yard.
I found door handles. 12 of them!

Each one was 1.5 pounds of cast brass. I bought them for $1.00 each.

It pays to shop in the right stores.

dumpster diveing was better during the early 90s where i used to live they were revamping an entire hospital it was a place roughly the size of an outpost town with 30 large seperate buildings each specialized to its own thing such as the eye depot the exray depot child development even its own engineering depot its was during this revamp there wass a different skip full of treasure on each street corner such as hydraulic patient lifting gear at the gerreatric ward and massive transformers with stepper motors and the controll systems at the exray depot and all the machine parts and cutting tools you could dream ar wish for outside the engineering depot not to mention all the computers me and my mate pulled out of a skip near the admin depot jesus we were at it all weekend and hid the lot in his dads caravan the look of despair when his dad caught us with them but he thanked us a week later when hed sold the lot for £1000 and got us both new bikes for it lol happy days
come to think of it theyre pulling the place down now i wonder if theyve got any of those old machines still hanging around couldnt hurt to look and ask can it
