The +UTEBERT+ (SP). Yesterday I came across and watched a NOVA documentary on an ancient viking sword this elite sword was made for about 200 years and is rare. The metallurgy and grain structure rival modern crucible steel. this film documents a modern american sword smith recreating this blade using period tools.
Research also revealed a good number of the +Utbert+ s were period knockoffs the trademark inlay was misspelled and the blades were of inferior metallurgy typical of most blades of the time. I guess goes to show the concept of cheap imports is not a new idea.
thought some here would enjoy watching.
