I purchased this wooden model and assembled it. Wow it really works.

After seeing the original run, my grandfather decided to build one a size and a half larger (150%). Instead of having wood rubbing on wood he used brass tubing for the cylinders and made the rods and bearing surfaces out of metal as well. I helped him with some of the woodworking and assembly.
