I've been noodling around another engine idea using my compressed-air-slave-valve design for awhile now. The next logical progression would be a V-8. In my teen years, we all lusted for a Chevy V-8 with it's overhead valves and greater horsepower. However, most of us were limited by money to the more modest Ford flathead V-8's. I still love the sound of the Ford flatheads with dual glass-packs. Finding drawings of the Ford flatheads has been somewhat elusive, so I bought a model engine kit made by Hawk.

The kit arrived today so I've started taking measurements. This will be a pretty ambitious project and I'm not sure if it will come to fruition or not, but at least I'm thinking about it.

Go for it Chuck. Flatheads Forever. My choice was Flathead V8 over the 265/283 V8. Thm:

Sounds like a good idea Chuck. Good way to get all the basic measurements getting a model kit. Did you own a real one in your younger days? Got any pics?

No, never owned a flathead V8. Had a number of flathead sixes, including a 1950 ford with a flathead 6. My best friend at the time had a 1949 flathead V8.

Chuck, here are some photo's of my last Flathead V8 (had it about 21 years, 1988-2009). Completely rebuilt it 6 times. Was in my 1949 Ford Pickup. Ran it with single 2Bbl carb, 2 2Bbl carbs and for a short while with 3 2Bbl carbs. Running strong when I sold it in 2009.

Go for it Chuck,
Beauty of a flat head is it a simpler motor and with a Ford in particular no valve adjusters. A neat little V8 60 would have all the hot rodders very jealous.
You could do it easily with your skills.
