Case traction engines use something very similar.

Interesting geometry. Not seen it before. But it looks like it will wear quickly on the track and follower.?..

Very nice little engine. Thanks for sharing. That is the reversing method used on the Clayton Steam Wagon I built. It worked very well. The track and follower were case hardened to help with the wear.

Jack Bucklers 'Sweet Pea' uses the same valve gear,(as do a few others of this type). I finished mine in 1987 and it has been a regular steamer since, seen here at one of the club runs last year.
