In preparation for our annual Cotton Ginning Days Festival next weekend, we held a work session today, mainly to crank up the 1920 Fairbanks-Morse 37 1/2 HP 2 cycle diesel engine which is used to power the working cotton gin and bale press. I made a video of the start up this morning and include a picture of the engine below. Note: the video is quite a large file and not suitable for dail-up connections.
It amazes me every year how well the engine starts after sitting around all year between shows. Actually we usually have more problems starting the 3 HP Fairbanks hit and miss engine that runs the compressor to build up the 140 psi of air needed to turn the big diesel over.
