The IT police at work have now put Photobucket on the list of unavailable websites so now I can neither upload pictures at work or open the site to link to pictures I have, nor can I view anybodies pictures which are hosted on Photobucket! All I get is a little square with a cross in to tell me there should be a pic.

First Ebay, now this, don't they know I need something to look at in between snippets of work.

Rant over, thank-you for your time.

Best Always

It's terrible when they do this, makes going to work a real drag when you have to do work for the company as well.

Maybe a change to a more tolererant company would do the trick.

It's on the cards but not because my internet viewing is compromised. I may well be submitting my 12 months submittal for notice in the next 2 months. All I have to do then is figure out how to make a living in the real world where I'm fairly sure there will be little scope for chiming in on internet fora.

Sorry to hear that DD ,just thought I'd mention this in case you didn't know ,I didn't until recently but unless someone is actually looking over your shoulder, you can use an anonymous proxy server like" king of proxies" there are lots of them ,kids at school use them to look at youtube etc. I'm not sure you would be able to upload but I don't see why not and you could certainly see the already posted pictures, I use imageshack BTW but maybe they're on to that too!

Al,

If you do decide to move, it will be the forces element that will get you in.
It has stood me in good stead for many years. Firms like reliable, dependable and disciplined people, and will usually take their experience, rather than modern day paper.

Go to a company that has any ex forces boys on the upper payroll, and you will be accepted like a shot. Forces people tend to stick with their own.

I remember my job interview for an electronics company, I knew nothing about electronics, but the chap who interviewed me had been thru the same technical training school and education that I had. He employed me on the spot, and dumped the rest of the candidates. He realised I had the potential to do the job with ease. It lasted over ten very successful years, until our American parent company (Maxtor) pulled the plug in favour of home production.

So don't worry too much about what you are going to do. You might find yourself turning jobs down.

But if it doesn't happen, you can always join the queue of the great unwashed, and let the government support you while you get yourself straight.

No joy there, all the proxy sites which came up on a google search cannot be accessed, in fact a google search for king of proxies cas cancelled too!

In hind sight perhaps I should just get on with work.....Nah!

Thanks anyway

Blocking the anon-proxies is the first thing the IT administrators do, before they start blocking 'bad' sites. Then they look for people trying to get to the proxies after the sites are blocked-- bad idea to be doing that.

One of two things has happened when they add something-- either the 'bad site' service they use added it, or they had a specific problem with it like somebody else surfing porn through it and added it themselves. In the former case, often you can get them to edit the bad site list from the service (since it's probably a surprise to them too) if you show a work-related reason to get photobucket pictures. In the latter case you're much less likely to succeed, but it's still possible.

You know, you really should'nt be playing on the internet at work. I would list reasons but I've got to get back to work ;)

Perhaps I'll try to access a proxy site from sombody elses computer in case extra infringements get logged. ;D

Thanks Again

No way can the IT folks ban all proxies, I used to run some of the most evil and notorious Troll ,hacker and cracker sites on the web and we found ways to get around everything.

I can find huge list if needed, no way can IT ban them all.
They don't have to ban them all.. they just ban all the ones they know about (there's a big list and companies whose job it is to update it) and if they catch you going to any of those, it's pretty much proof you've violated your employment agreement by trying to bypass their 'security'-- going to a banned site you can usually say was a bad link or something, but hitting an anon proxy (or a list) is a lot tougher to explain.

My favorite is the google translator-- it can be tweaked to translate pages from english to english and almost nobody blocks google..

I used to be a big time hacker, but knowing the state of the art tools are these days, there's no way I'd try it at a job I wanted to keep.
