Hi,

I am trying to smooth out a cylinder bore and the piston.
I have center drilled it out and then used a boring tool to get it to the correct diameter.
The problem i am having is it is full of tiny lines and the piston does not feel smooth at all in it!
Is there some sort of tool i can make/use/buy to smooth the bore out?
And are there any recommended lapping pastes or concoctions that work miracles out there??

The piston is not too bad, but whenever i polish it i get a looser fit because os material removal.
I was thinking of the finest water paper as an option??

Still new to this and looking for help.

Thanks

Andrew

Andrew lapping has been discussed here in the past.
general practice is to bore or ream cylinder depending on size then lap smooth then make piston to fit.
A favorite mentioned here is tooth paste
good old lapping compound works as well
as does auto finishing coupound. or metal polish
the whole trick with lapping is use a soft material like wood or lead.
If the lap material is harder than your part the part becomes the lap.
I think all hear who have built an engine has struggle d with the same issue.
Hope this helps
