Back in July, swbhart showed his small moving steady and it reminded me that back in the last century I made one but could never get it to work, so it was relegated to a dark dingy corner of the workshop.
Seeing his pictures, I immediately saw what I had done wrong, so I set about modifying my tool.
I first cut off the working end and slimmed down the body so that the channel is now only 1/4" deep for the cutting tool. The step at the back is so that there is still some metal around the pusher screw.
A new plate out of my best bit of 1/4" steel was made up and drilled for the securing screws and bush. Oops! A slight miscalculation where to put the securing screws!
Here it is assembled with a bit of oil blacking for appearance sake.
It seems to have turned out successfully. Now just need a reason to try it out!
