Four inches is awfully small for a RT.

Try an experiment. Draw a 100 mm circle on a piece of cardboard. Now try fitting *your* average anticipated size part on it along with three or four clamps to hold the part down.

The thing is at the moment I have to think about using it on the lathe,i think maybe a 6" might be to cumbersome. What do you think.
The Grizzly Rotary Table w/Indexing looks good but I don't think I can get one in the UK.

I bought a 2.5 inch RT a while back, with intentions of trying to adapt it to fit on my C4 Lathe cross slide. Unfortunately, it was one of the items HF gets from India and it was a total disaster where quality was concerned. It actually busted the table frame while I was rotating the table, holding it in my hand.

I'm still looking for a small one that I could modify for indexing directly to the lathe spindle.

If you are looking for a small one for a vertical slide on your lathe, then have a look here first.

It won't cost you too much to buy a 3" one, and they do sell small chucks that should fit onto it, but later you will need to buy a larger one for your mill.

I use some HBM equipment, and it is very well made.

If you are using it on the lathe then its easier if the centre height of the table when used vertically is less than the lathe centre height above the cross slide.

I've got the 6" Soba from Chronos and am very happy with it, not sure what the 4" is like and I only use mine on the mill.

I've got one of the 4" Sherline RT's. Very nice bit of gear, but as Marv says, working area disappears fast when loaded with part and clamps. Unless you're running Taig or Sherline-sized machines, I'd go for a bit larger one. Never considered using one on the lathe though.

Thanks for all the input, will think hard before buying.
