Well here is what I have so far. I sat down and did a little modeling this evening and here is what I have so far. It's a evolving process right now so things will change as I look at what I have and start drafting it.
Just thought I'd share what I've done so far.

That looks cool, I like the vertical cooling fins.

Looks Cool Indeed. The vertical fins are definitely a nice original touch.

Cant wait to see ya get started.

Kel

Thanks Kevin and Kel.

I want to get the modeling done and create the drawings before I go on Christmas break from work. That way I can get some much need shop time over our break. I get off work from Christmas eve to the Monday after. I figure I can finish modeling tomorrow evening and start the drafting process the part I hate I do not like drafting. The model is very close to the model in Miniature Ringbom Engines book I have. But it will have my own twists to it. I'm actually debating making it a water cooled engine instead of air.

I got a dumb question.

What is the difference between "Modeling" and "Drafting"?

Kel

First off there is no such thing as a dumb questions.
Modeling is when you first pull your ideas together into a 3d cad model drafting it when you create a drawing of said 3d model and put tolerances to the important fits and sizes. I hate drafting at work but the modeling part I enjoy to many rule to follow to do a drawing to specs.
Hope that helps.

Include the water jacket. With that design the excess heat from the hot end rises and warms the cold end.

I built Jerry Howell's version of this design...

and it includes a tiny pump, powered by the engine, which pumps water through the water jacket. It's a good runner and fascinating to watch. The displacer thumping away with no physical attachment to the crank is a real puzzler for lots of folks.

Thanks Pat
I know what you mean when I started it was pencil Mylar and a t square then we got protractor heads on our drafting tables we were in heaven. :big: :big: :big: I would hate to back to those days I hated figuring out fold lines and projection.

Marv I have not built a Ringbom yet so this is my first I've built other stirlings but never this style.
I'm still toying with the water jacket. I'm thinking of leaving it open on top with a hot water outlet and a cold water inlet. maybe build a pump to help gravity along we'll see.

I finished modeling I can start drafting here is what I have so far if I do decide on a water jacket I'll be able to add later on.

Well finished modeling and have started the drawing.
I may start build this weekend I will be building an air cooled I have decided if I want to put a water jacket on later. I'll be able to do so very simply by turning off the cooling fins and adding threads to the base of the cold cylinder so this is the way I'm leaning for now. I have material to get started on this build. Not sure at if I want to build more that one or not will decide later.

Well I've about finished the drawings. Just ordered some more bearings for this build. Didn't have anymore 1/8 ID x 1/4 OD should have everything I need to start.
I'll start on the build during my time off work for Christmas.
