Photos from how it all started: my own home made engines.

Hallo Model engine friends,

My first thread i ever made started with the sentence:my home made engines are ready yet so i had to start this thread first,but that's not the most important thing on earth i hope.
There were some guys who liked to see photos from my engines made
under construction so here are a few photos ,but some more photos will
follow as soon as possible to give a more complete idea from how i made my first own model engine(s).
I started to built my first engine in 2007 the Boll Aero 1.8 cc a design from Mr.Chris Boll from the U.K.
Chris has helped me a lot when problems occured during the making of,so i could get some more experienced in using metal working maschinery to make small model engine parts with.
My second engine was the Boll Major 4,4 cc also a design from Mr.Chris Boll from the U.K.
This engine is also a longstroke engine which can run with a very low RPM.
This engine is also able to turn big airscrews to reach the maximum torque.
The engine runs very sturdy too and is very adjustable in it's RPM settings.
My third home made engine is the BJ CiCaDa 1,4 cc so a small one which
has given me much pleasure.
The BJ CiCaDa is developed by Mr.Chris Boll from the U.K. and Mr.Bob Jenkins from Australia has made some transfer parting refinements to
give the engine better running and starting qualities.
It gave me many hours with much pleasure making the parts for these engines and now each engine has ran for 1 1/2 hour i feel a little bit proud
i must say that it all worked well at the end.

Hi Gerard welcome to the forum, I am also another clog wog,LOL I was born in Holland and came to Australia when I was 10. I come from Noort Brabant a place called Boxmeer, near Nijmwegen. Looking forward to the pictures of you builds.

i love they way you guys' say "when i built my first, second, third........ engine"

when do you get the time? i got all the castings for a 2" burrel about 4 years ago and all i have made is the fly wheel. i also started a whittle v8 last year and all i have is 8 pistons and an unfinished crank case.

blighty I'm currently in the same position as I have been doing renovations for the past 3 years, but I'm still buying tools and machinery in the mean time, just in case I ever get back in my shed before I drop LOL. Have many engines on the to do list, have completed 2 1/3 engines so far. Not touched the 1/3 for 2 years to finish it.

Hallo Tinkerer and blighty,

Thank you for the reaction on my second thread about my home made engines in which i will show a number of photos made during their construction.
I had big problems yesterday evening by placing them so will probably try this again this evening otherwise the photos will be placed as soon as possible of course.
To mr.Tinkerer yes Noord Brabant i know very good and Boxmeer also is wellknown to me.My wife comes from the South of Limburg you probably also know.
We had many American soldiers for a lot of years in Holland and Germany during the Cold War period.There are just a few American and British bases in Holland and Germany now today,everybody went to other places all over the world.It's very pitty it gave us people overhere a much more safety feeling the time they were here and also for economic reasons it was very interesting to have all these foreign soldiers in our countries.
To mr.blighty i would say i amin an age of 64 years and there's somemore time left to spent doiing something with model engines.I like tinkering at old abused often worn out factory made model engines,but more by coiincident i became a plan from a very small model diesel engine designed by a man from the U.K. and so it al started.
In the spare time i am still busy with my factory engines repairing,cleaning and so on.I like small model diesel and glow engines very much in a size with a max.cilinder displacement from 2,5 cc so all the old abused PAW's,AM's,WenMac's,Cox and other small ones are very welcome of course to spent my free time with.
Thank you both for your very sympathic first reactions will hopefully show a number of photos soon.

Hallo Model engine friends all over the world,

Happily i succeed in putting the first couple of photos on this website. I made these photos during the construction from my home made model engines.
I hope that you like the next number of photos as well.I made these three engines on my own way and happily it all worked well.I have no experience at all in metal working machinery,but i learned from my own faults and i think it was the best way for me to learn the practical part of making own model engines.
I took all the inch sizes over however overhere is the metric system more common.
In some cases i made screwthread from a metric size in other cases i used the original inch screw thread for Bolts and Nuts.
The material specifcations are very standard so no special Aloys or Steel are needed,but it's wellknown that it's always very clever to make a piston from
the right quality Cast Iron and the Liner from the right quality Steel ,but no real high qualified material is necessary.

if only you could post the smell of them running.

think the first engine i played with was a diesel. i must of been about 9. didn't have a fuel tank, so i spent all day putting a bit of fuel down the carb, giving it a flick and watch it run for a few seconds.

Wow Gerard, everything looks good to me. I like that tapping setup too!

That mouse pad gives a good idea of the size of the parts as well.

Thank you for your message.Indeed the smell of the model diesel fuel makes running these kind of engines very exiting.I found my first model diesel engines on the ceiling at my parents home.My father was in those days a fanatic Model Plane Flyer/Builder too and likes the small model diesel engines too.
I took them with me a Webra Mach1 2,5 cc and a Jaguar 2,5 cc and tried to start them and after some short first runs i loved these engines very much as well.Their simplisity and the fact that they were vere sturdy and easy to adjust made them ideal for me to practise my engine starting on.It was also very important that i could make my own diesel fuel often called as my own "Home Brew".I do n't have these first two diesel engines anymore,but a lot of these equal kind of engines are in my possesion today.

Thanks for sending me your e.mail with compliments about the engine parts and tools.The tapping setup was bought this year in April on the German International exhebition:INTERMODELLBAU-2013 yearly held in the West Falenhallen Strobeallee 45 D-44139 DORTMUND-GERMANY.When you go to www.google.com and type in Intermodellbau Dortmund or something like that you will find much informations even with videos made by the visitors and Distributors from Model Plane/Engine and related products.
Coming back to the tapping toolset i bought it at the stand of www.wabeco.de or www.wabeco.com a German manufctorer from Metla Lathes and Milling Maschinery more in the Hobby sizes ,but from a high standard.On such occasions as Intermodellbau they always have special offers in Maschinery parts,Tools of all kind to work with metal and also this Tappping setup for a cheap price of as i am right €35 plus €25 for the maschine holder.I have n't really use this Tapping toolset as you can see because it was summertime overhere and there much more other things to do in that time.I have to mount it on a
maschine table i have before working/using it.There will come some extra photos from my engines in construction as a bonus to give a much more complete idea on how i made these little engines.
