Hello Everybody,
I have read quite a bit on this site already and am impressed with the diverse range of projects and huge amount of skilled people. I am looking forward to being a part of your community and would like to use the forum to able to chat about all things engineering and maybe get the odd bit of advice.
My Name is Mike. I am a design engineer in the automotive industry. I enjoy engineering in almost all its forms. I really enjoy design which is great for my job but I miss the opportunity to make things with my hands. That's why I'm getting into making model engines as well as working on and building cars in my spare time.
Previously I made what I think is called a wobbler. It was a very simple engine built for max rpm that ran on air. This sparked my interest and I am keen to make more. I am currently designing a twin beam engine which I hope to start making soon. I think this project is probably naively ambitious but I like to bite off more than I can chew so I can make my own mistakes and work things out as I go as I find I learn best that way. That's not to say I don't welcome plenty of friendly advice!
My workshop facilities currently run to a small lathe (Axminster BV20M) and an extensive collection of automotive tools. I have moved recently so am 100miles from my workshop which I currently rent. I am hoping to move to a workshop which is local soon and then I will start building up the machine shop side of my collection. In the mean time (and probably to continue for some time) I am pleased to have found a local college which opens up its machine shop once a week for the local model engineering club. This means I have access to a very comprehensive range of manufacturing facilities.
Wow. That's a lot about me me me! Sorry. I hope I can continue to contribute in future without so much self absorption!
Cheers,
Mike
