Hello everyone, my name is Shane. I am an avid hobby watchmaker and and beginner machinist(hobbyists). I have a sherline 4400 lathe and 14” sherline mill. I am mainly working on things related to clocks and watches. Thank you for welcoming me to the group

I recall watching and marveling at the watch repair guys at the local Sears store.

I would watch them for 30 minutes at a time.

Quite fascinating to work at such a tiny scale, but not something I could ever do.

Thank you very much Pat, I am excited to be part of this amazing group of talented and beginner machinists alike. Working in such small scale is very difficult and often times required frequent remakes of the specific item I am working on, does not leave a lot of room for error. One thing I’ve been recently trying to get my feet wet with is gear cutting which happens to be one of the most involved and complicated things you can do machining, but for what I do it’s required to know how to and be proficient in.

Nice to meet you Shane. I started out 20 years ago with a Sherline 4400 lathe and a 5400 mill was the first mill I ever touched. When Yahoo Groups was still a thing, there were some amazing guys there, including some watchmakers. Now that Yahoo groups is gone and groups.io took over, it seems quieter.
