It took some fun our. It like my first that dates back 1960's.

It took a year to find some different. So you have seen a few of post on navigation tools and sundials. Not hard to build but some of mathematics is not easy for most. So now looking some you with engines like a ship. I have been ship one time my So look thing need foe engines on ships.
Now starting simple. Something I have seen to must on building.

Astrolabe with sundial.
So does any have data ?
A good chart to find Latitude using sun with a Astrolabe?

Maybe a decision on subject too.

This how the dial will look when finished a plexiglass covers to protect the photo paper. The protractor is top for most accuracy. I have used this pass different projects. First try lacquer later used plexiglass with gave a good protection.
Works for machine tools and engines too.
The lacquer work but some time the lacquer would give fussy lines. I did use a artistic spay paint then lacquer. This was better but plexiglass was best for fine lines. If was in damp or wet I would use silicon on edges for better seal.
I have casting, photos and offset printer plates too the down side was time it took and cost.

Using a Manufacture Protractor saves time.
Doing in mill takes time

Note I have not removed the ruler in this photo.
