Down to a little over a week from my move to Austin. Actually, we bought a house in Round Rock, Tx, a suburb immediately north of Austin. The movers are coming next Monday, the 22nd, to pack us and load us. The wife and I will be departing Phoenix on Wednesday for a 2 day drive (in 2 different vehicles). I'm not looking forward to that part!

Gonna take me a while to get my shop set up in the 2 1/2 car garage. I have a 24000 BTU ductless minisplit air conditioner to install and will have to add a bunch of 20 amp outlets. Fortunately the breaker box is in the garage, so adding extra circuits will be pretty easy. Fitting my tools in the available space will be a challenge, particularly since I will have to share the space with 2 cars when I'm not working out there. Luckily, a lot of my stuff is on wheels.

I'll provide some pictures when I get started.

Chuck,

Good luck with the move. ;)

Does being a Texan entitle you to wear a 10gall Hat. ???

Best Regards
Bob

Good luck Chuck, moving is often stressful so a bit of mental diversion planning your new 'shop might help - something to think about on that long drive perhaps? Thm:

Welcome to Texas Chuck! ;D

Austin has a little motto I thought to impart before you arrive.

Keep Austin Wierd!

It Means Shop Local. Just say No to BlandMart, and support the Mom and Pop Shops.

Chuck, best of luck on your move. If you handle the move like you handle your engine builds, everything will go smooth as silk.

Cool.. let us know if you need anything here.. there's a few metal nuts about. ;)

We spent the day today drivin across Arizona and New Mexico. We're spending the night in Las Cruces before heading out to Texas tomorrow. Got a 500 mile drive ahead of us tomorrow.

We moved out of our house yesterday. I can't even begin to tell you what a nightmare this has been. The packers came on Monday and left a lot of stuff "unpacked". The movers came yesterday whereupon the driver promptly pissed off all the help and they walked off the job. The second round of help showed up around noon and didn't finish loading the truck until close to 9pm. The wife and I had to help the driver wrap some of the furniture and plants while we were waiting for the second shift to arrive. We were bone tired by the time we got to the hotel last night.

The driver was telling me, after 3/4 of the loading was done, that he was pretty sure he load would weight a lot more than the 18,000 pounds quoted by the sales guy. I told him, tough, we got a guaranteed maximum weight charge at 18,000 lbs. Guess the salesman who did the estimate didn't open up any of my drawers or cabinets in my shop. My guess is the total weight is closer to 23,000 pounds, but I wasn't saying anything! He also must not have noticed that most of my furniture, which I built, is solid hardwood!

Oh well, I knew this would be an adventure!

Chuck,
I hope the move all went well.

In honor of your move to Texas, I made a big batch of "Texas Red Chile" on Tuesday. Wednesday I converted the remains to "Christmas Chili" by mixing 1/2 & 1/2 with green chili to honor your passage across New Mexico. Now it's back to plain old everyday green chili stew for substance.

At least you are staying in the Great Southwest. We need all the model engineers we can get out this way.

Thanks, Gail, we spent our first night in Las Cruces. Pretty city!

We have now been in our new house 2 nights. It took the movers until late yesterday to finish unloading everything. We've managed to get a lot of boxes unpacked, although most of what we unpacked has not been put away. There's not a part of my body that doesn't ache and I'm still suffering a bit from Shingles (been 6 weeks now). Moving, especially at my age, is really agonizing. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

All my tools and shop stuff arrived in good shape. My garage is such a disaster, I don't know if I'll ever find a place for everything. With the current heat here in Texas, I may not start arranging my shop until September or October. The wifes car made it into the garage, but my pickup will be in the driveway for the foreseeable future.

Plenty of stuff to do inside in the mean time. We now have cable TV, a phone, and internet service, so I'm no longer feeling homeless! Still have to put away all my books and magazines. Then I have to reroute all the cabling for the phone, internet, etc. Probably should do that before I put away all the books and magazines since I'm pretty sure a lot of the wiring will wind up behind the book shelves.

September?? Ah, that's right, you've not been here long ;D ;D ;D

Garage AC is going to be high on your list.

Chuck,

I am happy you, your family and your effects all arrived OK. :D

As we will be doing the same in a couple of months, the above sort of hit me as OH S#$T.

Best Regards
Bob

Welcome, welcome. Welcome to Texas Chuck. Glad you could get in before the door closes. :p

About the Heat. Our other season is cold. It stays for a few months then were back to Heat. ;D
Get that work done at sunrise. Afternoons are for naps. 'Summer heat' ain't working with us. That's just stories for them Yankees! :D
