The one I rode in as a kid ( remember...over the tree?) was a 52'...I think.

Sure looks like it...but the one I rode in was painted fire engine red....with a brush! :big:

During R&R from the gunline in Vietnam we were at the SRF in Subic Bay and our host was a US maintenance and repair vessel. The engineer of this very nice vessel invited us to dinner at the Air Station O club. He arrived to take us there in the most immaculate Jeep I have ever set eyes on. Don't ask me what model it was coz I haven't a clue.

"Where did you get this little beauty," I asked. "Oh I picked it up off a scrap heap near Da Nang and my boys patched her up a bit," he replied.

Next up, "Hang on Guys we need some gas." We duly proceeded to the motor pool and gassed up. Out came a guy with a clipboard and wrote down this huge number stencilled on each side of the bonnet......USNXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Our gracious host was presented with said clipboard which he signed with a flourish and a smile as we drove away.

"Why are you smiling?" I asked.

"Hey man by the time the computer figures this jeep doesn't exist - we've sailed." ;D

Best Regards
Bob
