I started this project about 5 years ago made some of the small parts then went back to building model aircraft, i like to do some of both, so i am now back on model eng. in the last 6 months I have built the hawk 6 cc 4 stroke, now moved back to the Kinner. i have put some pictures of parts completed, and the method i m/c valves as this is a method i find works well for me. I have a Chester DB7 lathe and a small Chinese milling m/c which I converted t cnc

Funny. I'm pulling my Kinner out of retirement to start building again. Stopped 7 years ago when my lathe was damaged. Just finished fixing up the lathe. Been building this engine off and on since 2007. Good luck!

I have been getting more machining done, I am now on cams and valve gear, I machined the cams on my small milling machine which i converted to cnc I get very good results. I am going to loctite all these parts together on assembly, this will make valve timing easy.(hope the loctite holds).

Nice! Have you looked into the oil pump yet? I'm having a hard time finding a (reasonably priced) supplier for the 1/4PD 48p 12t gears in the pump. My go to McMaster doesn't carry that size. One place I found wanted rediculous money for that sized pinion wire.

Did some thread milling today, anyone who is fortunate enough to have cnc milling it is very easy. I made a screw cutting tool out of a old 6 mm tap as the thread I cut was 1mm pitch. I ground all the tap away except for the last 2 threads on one flute, thus making a thread shaped fly cutter.

Peter: My dad built this engine over 20 years ago to run on glo plugs It ran OK till it got hot and the bottom end siezed. Added the oil pump, repaired the scored con rods(replaced) and its been fine ever since. IMOP an oil pump is required. I think you can get gear stock from Debolt inOhio.740 454 8082. The drawing for the pump in Strictly I.C. is wrong. The spacing between the shafts in the pump needs to be larger to allow the gears to rotate. I copied this pump and adapted it to a Panther Pup and it works O.K.

Well that will be a bummer. I just finished the oil pump with the spacing as spec'd. I'll check the supplier for the gears.

Thanks

Thankyou for your interest, I am still going to build without the oil pump but I am going to fit bronze bushes in all the conrods and improve the oil holes. If I do have problems with lubrication I will take your advise and fit the oil pump.
Cheers Pete.

Pete: As the fuel mixture does not pass through the crankcase as in a 2 stroke, things get pretty dry. The gear case also needs oil. . Hope it works out O.K. for you. Regards Colin

To be clear, are you looking for 14.5°PA, 48DP, 12t gears? I wonder if it would cheaper / more widely available to switch everything over to 20°PA ... but I confess that I don't know the implications in terms of possible undercutting on a gear that small.

Richard Carlstedt, Rich, I have been trying to contact you but I can't get the URL I have to work. If nothing has changed on your end; I will try to work something out. My computer took a Dump, lost everything.

P.S. I have Gmail account now, Not Suddenlink anymore. Hope to hear from you!
