Hi:
It’s been one of those days. I have been building engines for about three or four year’s now internal combustion, Steam, and Stirling. The first Stirling that I built was a Scotch Yoke that came from Little Machine Shop.

Some time ago I decide that I would like to build a larger scale of the Scotch Yoke. Two week’s ago I set down at the Computer opened my CAD and started to draw up some plans for the engine. The CAD program is TuboCAD Deluxe 16 and I’m still learning how to use it. I have only had the program for about a year and have only used it to draw up a few parts when need.

Every thing was going good until today and then things went real bad. I had just finished a part saved it closed out the Layer it was on and went to open one of the other Layer’s to make some changes to a differed part that I had worked on earlier (guess what?) The Layer was there but the part wasn’t and none of the other 16 parts that I spent the last two weeks drawing were to be found all of the Layer’s are there but not a thing on them.

The good news is as I finished each part I printed out the drawing of it so at lease I have hard copy. The bad news is if I want to share the planes with any one I will have start all over.

I have decided to start the build and see how it turns out; I did get all of the critical parts drawn up.

We will see how it goes,
Richard

Bummer!!!! It's strange that if you had saved them that they still werent' there somewhere.

Just a thought but are the layers visible or invisible ??? I ask because this is a possible setting in my CAD program. I hope you find all your hard work.

Is this your first turbo-cad version?
or have you used others before this.

If this is your first version, than layers can be a little tricky at first, especially when you group objects and things.

In the layer box, you can click on make all visible.

Thats a real bummer.
Not that I use CAD but for other things I consider real important or puts lots of effort in on the PC I quite often use 'Save As' and give it an incremental name so if I do screw it up I only loose stuff after the last save.
I have a database tracking the sale prices of Australian made toy steam engines on ebay that has over 3 years worth of entries. That one I even go as far as backing it up on seperate drives and USB sticks.

Sorry for giving 'the horse has bolted advice'

Another thought :-\ :-\

Did you look in the auto save directory as well as the backup directory. In turbocad the autosave files have the extension asv or crs and in the backup directory they have bak extensions.

Hope this helps

Best Regards

Hi All;

I started using a CAD program back in the 80’s the first one was called EasyCAD by Evolution. I used it up until I went to Windows XP. My old EasyCAD and XP did not get along so I went to TurboCAD V11 then V15 and now V16. Up until now every thing has gone well. I always do a save as when I start a new drawing.

All of my old drawings are there and thy look ok, even the ones from my old EasyCAD and TurboCAD V11. The only one that is bad is the last one I was working on even the auto save and back up drawings are plank.

I have had some other miner problems with the program in the past so yesterday I copied all of my drawings to a different drive then uninstalled TurboCAD then reinstalled it. I will just have to wait and see if that helps any.

Thanks

Richard

Richard, I placed 2 reply's yesterday but do not see either one here. I found some of my symbols in another directory completely. It was also a hidden file. Under Users/my name/App Data/Roaming/IMSI/Symbols. Don't know if this info will help but it happened to me. I use Vista 64 with TurboCad 16 Deluxe. When I installed it I never told it to use that directory.. ironman

Ironman;

All of the replies that I posted yesterday are also gone. I am running Windows 7.
