I don't really see the sad part. That is just life, and you adapt and move on with it. Seems like he adapted. Sucks pinching your fingers off though...that has always been my biggest fear, mangling a hand. :eek:
 
The sad part for me was that this is a family business and he said that none of the rest of the family wanted any
part of it.
Seemed like when he goes, so does the business and all of his knowledge.

But that is just my 2 cents! ;D

Very interesting to me because it is very similar to my story less the cutting off fingers. He is right that the knowledge dies with the older generation. When I retired the only thing I could do is liquidate the business. Nobody wanted a dirty 50/60 hour a week job. What is really sad is that no one appreciates the art involved in the old metal working trade. Now we can do that with a computer and an automatic machine.
 
Wow, wisdom of the ages soon to be lost. Very poignant & almost brings a tear to your eye. This guy sounded rather sad.
