You can just make a project without having to stop to buy another size of bar, or tap, drill bit etc?

Almost every project I start involves atleast 2 weeks waiting for some vital part to arrive.
I was about to start another small project to make another tool that I should be able to finish in 2 nights but have just discovered I'm missing one size of bar stock.
So instead of making anything tonight I've spent the time making a list of material I want / need and may need in the future and placed the order.

I was hoping to have this project finished by the weekend but now I will be lucky to finish by next weekend.

Oh, to just have everything I need to finish a project in my workshop for once............

Drives some people nuts but I may have several projects going at the same time. When all else fails I make another piece of tooling. Never seems to be a shortage of things to do in the shop while waiting for bits to arrive.

I'm truly convinced that if one owned all of the tooling and metal stock in the world, there would always be that *something* that was missing to do a single step of a project. Very deep pockets is almost a requirement :eek: as well as 25 hours in a day ;D

I have access to the scrap bins ( and even the stock racks, if I ask nicely ;D ) at work, and I still need to order material and hardware to finish anything.

Dunno, I've been at it 32 years and I ain't got there yet.

Never happen ....... ::) ..... you'll always be missing a screw or summat ;D

I suspect your are right.
I wouldn't mind so much if I could buy it locally but almost everything I need has to come from atleast 4500km away, sometimes the other side of the world....

Just had a call from the supplier who left a message.
I was after some 1/2 inch brass hex rod so I ordered that and 7 or 8 other items to pad up the order.
Guess what?
They are out of stock of 1/2 brass hex. :big:
Luckily I called them back just before they posted my order which they were going to send without the 1/2 brass hex. They do have 12mm brass hex rod in stock and this will do for what I want so they are sending that instead.

I was pretty much to that point with the little rocy engine .
The hold up there is finishing the cnc on the mill and leaning cnc now I have no working crank handles on the mill at the moment.
