I'm brand new to the hobby. My knowledge of live steam is with full size locomotives, so I understand the principles but the "how to's" and even the feasibility of doing things on model steam engines is all new ground to me. Hoping to learn by reading here and absorbing all I can.

Welcome Paul, glad to have you here.
I have been studying steam engines of all types for about 16 years, and I feel like I have just scratched the surface.
At this point I try to focus on the more simple designs, and leave the rest to the "experts".

A buddy of mine got to see the Big Boy pass by.
Pretty interesting how they modernized that locomotive to be able to use the modern rail control system.

You have a model engine build in mind ?
