Hello, saw a question on the site I thought I could answer, so jumped in. I'm a retired journalist but have always enjoyed making things. I bought an elderly Craftsman 109 lathe in 1982 and was hooked. It's sitting in a box behind my 13x40 Grizzly now, but I learned a lot from that little lathe. Confession: I've never made an engine, but I enjoy general machining. I volunteer as a machinist at the local railroad museum, where I play trains with real trains...great fun, and lots of work. FWIW, my shop in addition to the lathe is an 8x32 knee mill, tig & acetylene, small surface grinder, belt grinder, drill press, etc., the usual stuff. Lots of nice work here, I hope to learn a lot about this special area of metalworking!
