:-[Hi,

Sitting at home today, delivery of my new lathe from Little Machine Shop is sometime between 1 and 4 this afternoon. As I am waiting, thought it would be a good time to join.

I have a fairly complete woodworking shop and have been playing with that for some years now. I also am a Journeyman Toolmaker but it's been over 15 years since I touched a machine. Looking forward to making some chips rather than dust again.

Like to start out building some simple engines, taking some time to slowly build my skills again. Slow makes a better hobby anyway.

I'll be lurking for awhile, trying to get to know the group. Anyway, too excited to write more for now. Where's that delivery truck? ;D

Welcome to the forum :) hopefully you can post a few pics as you unpack your new lathe, would love to see them! What sort of engines are you interested in building?

Regards,

Will

Nice, it's here. :)

I suppose, like everyone, I think the crate could have been better. Lost a little paint, but no real harm done. Fussy about my equipment, with some touch up, it will be fine. Maybe Chris (LMS) can send me a little grey paint.

Kind of engine? Start with a wobbler or two, then hot air. The real goal is Hit & Miss. Like to do some scale models of the old guys I see around here.

Here, is Addison, about twenty miles south of Jackson. Old Irish Hills area.

Well, back to work. Say, you guys want to stop by the shop and help me get this up on the bench? GR's not that far! ::)

Congrats on the new lathe. Please share your builds with us :)

There used to be a great ice cream place in Jackson. They had a giant "Sundae" that 5 grown men couldn't eat. I had some clock-collecting friends that on 2 different occasion drove over 600 miles out of their way between clock shows just to get ice cream.

(Clock collectors are even nuttier than model engine builders)

Welcome. I'm also from MI, in Holland. New toys are always exciting aren't they?

RE Ice Cream: Plainwell Ice Cream Company in Plainwell MI, just off 131 south of Grand Rapids has good hand dipped ice cream.

Just a note to Grand Rapids, never mind stopping by. Chain fall. 8)

Rhitee93, the ice cream place is still there. It is called The Parlor and they still have all the big stuff with the challenge that if you can eat it, it is free.

Mbusha, I am not to far from you. I live near Parma.

Welcome to the board,
George

Is that old observation tower still in the Irish Hills? That was a major landmark for us when I was a kid and we drove from Detroit to my mothers home in Tennessee.

The two towers are still there but have been closed for a dozen years. However a group has purchased them and they now have some sort of historical status. Anyway, they are restoring the towers and plan to reopen them.
