Hi all.

Just signed up to your site. It looks great, just what I need for inspiration. I have recently acuired a small hobbie lathe with milling face so home to get on with a project very soon. I'm a keen model aviator so engines deffinetly interest me :)

Iain.

I should read my posts before I post them! Spelling mistakes everywhere!

Don't worry Iain,

There are a few members on here that have great difficulty with correct spelling, thru no fault of their own, and they join in like everyone else does, so I don't think you will be a problem.

BTW, there is a group of us that come from Crewe, so you saying you come from Cheshire, then you can't be all that far away.

Welcome.

John

Hi John.

Crewe's not too far from me at all. I live in Northwich so only down the road. When you say a group do you mean a club of some sort or is it just a few friends that have met up on this site with a common interest?
I've been looking through the web and I would like to start by building a small 2 stroke i.c. engine, diesel or glow, and hopefully get it airbourne in an aircraft :) I would also like to make some nice oleo's for my large mustang. A lathe is a very handy tool to have as part of my model flying hobby :)

Iain have a look at the Firefly 0.46 that is currently being covered in Model Engineer, its a simple glow engine designed for the beginner. The articles are well written but lacked photos so I've taken a few myself and done a basic write up here. You can do it all on a lathe but a mill will make it easier.

It was also featured in RCM&E a few months back

Cheers chaps. I'll take a look at that engine. I think a 2 stroke will be best for starting out. Then a four stroke! I have high hopes for my turning skills! :)

Iain,

No club, just a few of us that get together and help each other out with tooling, raw materials etc. Nothing like beating your gums for a couple of hours amongst friends.

There is a model engineering club nearby, but it is mainly locomotives, and they have their own permanent track at Nantwich.

Stew (who you will come across) is a member of that club.

The rest of us just doss about, doing our own thing.
