Hi,
Been lurking around here for a bit and thought I'd introduce myself properly. I'm a currently unemployed mechanical engineer with 30 years experience as a machine builder. I find my self fascinated with model engines of all types. Right now I'm in the process of setting up my basement shop (SB 9A, Emco compact 8, RF31 mill and host of other bits) that I "inherited" when my former employer went out of business. Should be up and running in another week or so. Then I can get around to finishing the PM model #1 (the old all aluminum one) that I started eons ago, the double scotch that I have half finished and another model I found a bag of stuff for when I cleaned my desk out that i have to identify. My son will also probably be messing about down there as he is in a CNC apprentice/internship program at a local CNC shop. Here's a practice piece they did in class.

Great looking engine Phrodo. Welcome to the forum.

Glad you came here.
Pictures of the shop when it's up and running are encouraged.

What part of Rochester? I'm in Brighton, SE side. Over by the old "can of worms area.

PM me if you'd like to stop over to see my shop.

Hey RL, I'm actually up close to SeaBreeze in Irondequoit. Once I get my shop organized maybe we can do a "garden tour" and visit each other. Anyone else in the Rochester/ western NY area? Maybe make a whole Saturday out of this and meet a few people some time and see what everyone is up to.

Hi Phrodo,

A mechanical engineer with a son who is into (and has access to) CNC machines is always welcome, particularly with pictures.

Sounds good. Let me know when you get set up.

Alright, I'm almost open for business. Here's a couple of shots of the shop with everything in place. Now I just have to get everything leveled. The Southbend is going to need some work (half nut, cross slide play, etc.), but will do the job in the meantime as the spindle appears fine.
