I have a friend that I designed and built a steam engine for some months back. Last night I was surprised to receive the gift in the photo below. It is an early 1900's cut away view of a steam engine used in basic science and engineering classes to demonstrate how things work. It has an eccentic / valve assembly and a reversing linkage. There is a handle on the flywheel to hand crank it and show how the parts work. It has a lable that says it was made by the Chicago Apparatus Co. Can't tell you how delighted I was to get this.
Timing of the gift was perfect because every year I go do a presentation to a science class about steam power and the industrial revolution. I take some of my models but this will be great to show the inner workings of an engine.
