Well at last l have got there with my inner fear of silver soldering, today l set to and done some, and why did l not get to doing it sooner l just do not know,so am away with that now,the rods l brought were only 200mm long so l found when l got down the rod some it burns the fingers,so in the end l made up a tool from 1/4" alloy rod 6" long then drilled one end in about 3/8" then fitted a 8ba screw in the side just to pinch the solder rod,now l can use all the rod right down an no more hot fingers, plus the small bit left can be kept aside to put round parts and melt that way.
l do not no what the price is across the pond most you have to pay ,but silver solder is not cheap mind nor is the flux, l did sill some people make there own flux on the net but time you buy all the powders etc would it work out any cheaper, still its another milestone for me in the learning curve making models.
regards wes

Great to hear that you are on your way soldering / brazing. It is a very handy skill to have in the home shop.
