First decent day we've had for a while and I got to spend it playing 1:1 scale engines - not near as much fun (and dirtier).

Well, at least the weather was pleasant. Engine swaps seem to take 10 times longer in freezing cold or boiling hot weather. ;D

Was that engine coming out for an R&R, or is it going into something else?

It died on me a week or so back. Got aholt of a second hand replacement to drop in while I bench this one for a rebuild.

That is a lot of work Tel.
I know first hand! I scattered the engine in my work car.
My nephew was working as the maintenance / inspection mechanic
at a local car rental business. He was given permission by the owner
of that company to use their service area and tools to do the engine
replacement there. It took him 8 hours to do that and he charged me
$80 labor. Quite a deal! While he was working I found a refrigerator
in the break room there that was full of beer. It wasn't chained shut
so I naturally assumed it was there for anyone. That following Monday
morning I took a case of beer into the owners office as a gift.
He said: "That is my favorite beer. And what do I owe this to?"
I told him that half of it was for allowing Eric to use his service area
to change the engine for me. The other half was to replace what I had
drank out of his refrigerator. He just laughed and said: "Fair enough." :D

sorry but i just could not resist this reply.

i know what the problem is there its a ford :big: :big: :big:

im just funnun with you. like i said i just could not resist it.

i had to replace a rod in my chevy overnight once i had just rebuilt the dam thing and forgot to chech on bearing. fired it up stomped the gas pedal to the floor had this real bad feeling and then i heard the knock. had to be at work the next day so out came the engine and the wee hours of the morning had it back in and running. now have about 25000 miles on it hard driving (foot to floor driving) and no knocks yet but i do have a little bit of rocker tapping going on. any who that looks like fun

Yep, it is a lot of work, but I'm not rushing this one. I've done too many 'heart transplants' that had to be squeezed into a single day - too, erm, middle aged for that stunt any more. Swung the old 'un out yesterday, I'll prep the replacement thru' the week and hopefully put it in next sat.

That's a 'near Ford' Itow - the engine is actually a Mitsubishi 4G54.
