On one of my regular scrap yard visits a large sliding drawer cabinet caught my eye.

When I slide one the drawers open I found it full of end mills! I checked with the owner who gave me a per-pound price and told me to pick what I want. Most all of the end mills I took are tapered end, and ball end. I took quite a few since my tool crib is lacking in those areas. They all appear to be new or lightly re-sharpened with their new sizes clearly marked. I need to sort thru them and make an inventory list showing what's on hand. I counted 213 pcs that cost me $72. If I only use a hand full of them, then it was well worth the investment.

You never know what can turn up at your favorite scrap yard! :big:

Good god. Nice man. Nice.

The scrap dealers here won't sell you anything. Heck, they won't even let you rummage though the heaps of stuff. :(

Fantastic result! I agree only a few makes that worthwhile.... brilliant..

it sure pays to look its good to be a bin diver ;D even better if you dont have to get in one :p

Nice find MB! Some folks get all the luck..... ;D

Just a small heads-up, always assume used mills have been resharpened/reground and the diameter isn't as marked (don't ask...). It's not a big deal, you just need to mic it to get the correct offset.

Have fun!

Hi Jeff. That,s the very reason I stay away from used stuff. I have seen totally useless end mills that were poorly-and-over ground by an incompetent person. For my purposes a smaller re-grind size is perfectly fine on tapered and ball end mills. I just took a look at a 1/2" double end ball under magnification. Both ends are marked .499 and finish on the cutting edges is as good as I have seen and better than most new ones. These were done by a real pro. One thousand over-or-under on 95 percent of my work is perfectly acceptable.
