I have one just like it that I use for when I need to run really small drill bits in my floor model drill press. I seems to secure the little bits better than the 1/2" chuck. It also keeps me from loosing said small drill bit on the bench. ;D

When I am feeling better, I will take a picture of the electric drill with that type of chuck. It is an old 1/4" that I use occasionally because it is a lot faster than the the newer 3/8" drills.

My dad had one many years ago. Don't know but my brother may still have it in PA.
I didn't like it back then but it does have some advantages.

My drill is a very old Black and Decker Cat. # U1. It is all metal and is marked "Utility" which is strange since the age of this drill is when B&D only made industrial tools.

Stan

The U1 was an industrial tool. It was sold to industrial users as a "disposable" drill. Not as costly as the legendary "Holgun" and meant to expand the market for electric hand tools to the industrial maintenance market.

Yes Stan i had one of those all metal body Black and Decker i got so many electric shocks from it, i got scared to touch it! so i threw it out! must have had a loose wire somewhere!
But back to the chuck in question i would say it definately came from an old 1/4" black and decker If i recall the three jaws in the chuck were set in a piece of rubber moulding unlike the one in question, with a steel boss controlled with an allen key to get the final tightness
regards Max.............
