I am making the Grasshopper engine. The drawings have unusual symbols that at first thought were sections or details. They are letters, SC,P,B etc. I tried googling "machine drawings" but could not find any info like these symbols.
One particular symbol "B" is shown at the crankshaft where the rod enters the block.
It appears that the rod is not fastened in the block at all.The detail of this shows 'B".
I'm wondering if the B means some type of fastening like a setscrew.
Hope I made myself clear.

Without seeing the drawing, I'm guessing they refer to fits;

SC sliding clearance

P press fit

B bearing bore,

A pic would help - perhaps a partial scan of the offending sections?

Elmer Verburg's symbols are as follows:

C = Close Fit
S = Smooth
F = Flat
B = Braze or Solder
P = Press Fit or Loctite
L = Loctite
MPT = Model Pipe Taper
- = Packing

Thm: What Rick said.

Elmer combined the terms as well, for example SC - is both "Smooth" and "Close", meaning usually a reamed or bored surface that is close-fitting.

Kind regards, Arnold
