I saw this video a few years ago and have never been able to find it again, until now.

It is very short but shows the chip formation in steel and cast iron.
If you look closely, you can see how steel softens from the heat and pressure ahead of the tool.
It also shows why it can be difficult to get a great finish on cast iron.
