I am starting this thread to supplement the beginners tool box thread.

The focus of that thread was as much as selecting tools to put in your box was to have a picture of the tool as to what it looks like and what it is used for.

There was an expressed desire to have a clear concise list of the tools needed to start out.
And as always repect others opinions on what they think the list should look like and if you think someones list missing a tool or has one that is never to be used express that in a kind helpful manner.
this is about a list of basic tools that works for you. and something you believe would be need to start this hobby .
If you can place a photo or two showing the tolls on the list so much the better.

Measuring tools

6” rule
One that has 32nds and 64ths one one side and 50ths .020 and 10ths .100 on the other side is ideal.
6 ” Calipers. IMHO opinion if you are going to have only one get a dial caliper.
Digital electronic ones are nice but you need a stash of batteries in the freezer unless you invest in a good name brand set.
0-1” or 25mm Micrometer if imperial get one that measures in ten thousandths .
T gages

I would suggest an "Interapid Type" indicator. Their "on center" design is so much easier to use and far more versatile than the dovetail type. I've seen newbies struggle for quite a while learning to make a pickup with dovetails.
Just my .02.

The purpose of THIS thread is a concise list. Please post details of individual tools in the beginners toolbox thread.
