Good old Youtube. For those who have seen the video it's nothing new but for some like us who have seen it for the first time, wow, what a glorious piece of machinery.
I know we can't preserve everything that was ever built but it seems like our society can only make building to last for 30 years anymore (stadiums etc.)
I wonder how often they operate it and what the fuel costs are?

Great stuff. I just found my next project. Just have to get my hands on a lathe to turn a 27 foot flywheel :big:

Mesmerizing!!

Well now, that was certainly relaxing to watch. The artistic flourishes combined with the actual mechanical function are quite remarkable. Built to last a lifetime and be beauty to the eye as well. I wonder what the boiler house for such a facility looked like.

Great stuff!

It sets me to thinking, AGAIN.... ::)

An average, modern automotive engine can crank out 200 HP at 4000 RPM.
If you ran it at that constantly, it might last 10 years.

These old steam engines could do that at 12 RPM and last...........
Well, many of them have survived for 100 years. (SO FAR!)

Some have been in service for over 125 years......IN SERVICE!....not just in a museum.

The Old guys knew what they were doing huh!?

Magnificent ! Parallel motion with a grasshopper counter beam, compound, Corliss valve gear .... - only a steam nut errr... aaaahhh... aficionado could decipher and appreciate that verbiage :)
